Massacre: Condemned to the shadows
22/08/12 || Lord K Philipson
*Question: Do you know what these guys have in common: Michael Borders, Bill Andrews, Pete Sison, Syrus Peters, Allen West, Joe Cangelosi, Rob Goodwin, Butch Gonzales, Walt Thrashler, J.P. Chartier, Sam Williams, Curtis Beeson, Kam Lee & Steve Swanson. Well, do you?
I know that “From beyond” is considered to be a classic release (and the only one worthy of giving a shit about when it comes to Massacre, that’s why I won’t even mention whatever they released after that one), and in some ways I guess it is. I never gave many fucks about said album though. But now they are, as the first track of this 7 inch limp cock states, “Back from beyond”. For all I care, they could have stayed in those shadows they are yapping about, becoz this is sub-par death metal on all accounts, not reminiscent whatsoever of what made Massacre “great” back in the day. Basically, this is zero percent better than what your average, obscure, irrelevant, shit death metal band from any given obscure, irrelevant, shit death metal country would fire up for your questionable listenable pleasure.
I understand they are going for the soooo old school death metal sound that made them “famous” and legendary (?), but where “From beyond” actually had some decent death metal material on it, this does not. At all. It simply comes across as a try to bring in some cash on their legacy. And if you’re going to do this, at least do it with all the original members (unless someone fucken died or whatever, then you’re kind of excused). Especially considering Kam Lee was quite the vital part of the band’s sound. (then again, perhaps it’s for the better not to have ol’ Kam included considering his taste in clothing. Skeleton clothes is not FTW!)
And if that wasn’t enough; the production sucks the cock, the snare sound is produced by some homeless fucko on bath salts and the cover looks fucken ridiculous.
As you can see, these 2 songs didn’t really come out too great when they left the studio, but in a live setting they must absolutely crush, no? Especially when you play it with a hoodie over your head. By the way, you never play a gig with a fucken hoodie over your head. Unless your band’s name is Ghost. Then again, it seems like it’s a part of their very inspired and high-energetic shows these days. We’re not exactly watching Slipknot there, are we? 4 grapefruits on stage would have made a more lively appearance.
Massacre, right… A fucken massacre of their legacy is what this is.

*Answer: They’re all prolly awesome fucken dudes and most likely fucken happy they are not in this band today, that’s what.
